Kenny Rogers tells the story of his #1 duet with Dolly Parton, The story of the 1983 Smash: "Islands in the Stream" writing by Bee Gees Legend Barry Gibb. At the time Barry was so uncool after the disco backlash that he had to write songs for other people. When Kenny Roger first got a hold of Islands in the stream it was a disaster... In fact he hated it... That's when Barry Gibb had the idea to get Dolly Parton to come in and sing it with Kenny as a duet and it became a #1 smash.
