Barry Gibb chats new country album and grieving his brothers

The Bee Gees sole remaining member - Sir Barry Gibb - discussed how much he missed his brothers/bandmates Robin and Maurice, who passed away in 2012 and 2003, respectively.'Incredibly, incredibly hard. Because we'd never, was never not been together, you know? It was really tough,' the British 74-year-old admitted on CBS Sunday Morning.'The first year after the last brother passed, Robin, that was the most difficult period for me. And people have said, "He had a breakdown." You know, I didn't have a breakdown, actually.    'I just didn't know where to go. I didn't know what to do. And I didn't know how to be perceived. I didn't know how to perceive other people's opinions. So basically, I've been in lockdown for years now!'Barry cannot bring himself to watch Frank Marshall's critically-acclaimed new documentary The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, which streams through January 17 on HBO. 'I can't handle watching the rest of my family. I just can't handle it,' Gibb said.'Who would? I think it's perfectly normal to not want to see how each brother was lost, you know? And I don't want to address it. I'm past it.'   The Kings of Disco recorded the soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever in 1977, and the six-time Grammy winner thinks the anthem Stayin' Alive 'seems more relevant now than ever.''I think it touches right on where we are now, you know?' Barry said of the song inspired by New York City.'Feel the city breakin' / everybody's shakin' / and we're stayin' alive.'As of Sunday, there have reportedly been 84.8M confirmed COVID-19 cases in the world leading to an eye-popping 1.84M deaths over just a year.     Gibb reimagined 11 Bee Gees songs and one unreleased track of his own on the country album Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers' Songbook (Vol. 1), which drops this Friday.Singers like Dolly Parton, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Olivia Newton-John, and Little Big Town all got to choose which song they wanted to record at RCA Studios in Nashville.'Studio B, which is where Elvis, and Roy Orbison, and the Everly Brothers, and Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson [recorded]. A phenomenal experience,' the father-of-five noted.'Dolly said to me, "Where I'm standing is where I sang Now I'll Always Love You and Jolene in the same afternoon!" So, that's very special, very special to be in that environment.' Barry is open to bringing his R&B falsetto pipes on tour if audiences are interested when the coronavirus pandemic dies down.'If people want me to. I wanna be wanted. And if people want me to do it, then, my goodness, I'd be honored to do it,' Gibb smiled.'It's lonely up there when you haven't got your brothers. But you still make it fun. That's what counts.'
