German tennis star Boris Becker describes how he 'hit rock bottom' in a clip from a new documentary series shot before he was sent to prison.
In April, Becker, a six-times Grand Slam champion, was jailed for two years and six months by a London court for hiding hundreds of thousands of pounds of assets after he was declared bankrupt.
On Thursday (December 15) the British government said he'd been freed, meaning he is now expected to be deported from the country.
In the two-part documentary series, an emotional looking Becker, speaking two days before he was due to be sentenced, says: "I've hit my bottom, I don't know what to make of it, I face it, I am not going to hide .. I accept whatever sentence I get.''
The untitled series for Apple TV+ has been directed by U.S. filmmaker Alex Gibney and according to press notes it aims to ''explore every aspect of the man who became a tennis sensation after winning The Wimbledon Championships at the age of just 17 ... as well as his high profile, sometimes tumultuous personal life.''
''The series features a series of personal interviews with Becker, including an exclusive conversation with the champion the week of his sentencing, alongside members of his immediate family and tennis stars including John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Novak Djokovic, Mats Wilander and Michael Stich.''
