Can't You See I'm Sorry
Music and Lyrics by Piliopo Nelson-Retzlaff (Dec. 25,1912 -Jan. 13,1987) RIP
Performed by TAFAOATA (Taupou Recording Studio, Hawaii USA)
This Samoan classic is believed to be first performed/recorded by Samoan jazz duo The Tuli Brothers (Willie Miller and Henry Hunkin), during their tour of Australia in 1954 and was made famous and recorded by the incomparable Yandall Sisters.
Piliopo is the daughter of the famous Ta’isi Olaf Frederick Nelson and the mother of the former Samoa Deputy Prime Minister, and Attorney General, Tugaga Misa Telefoni Retzlaff. Piliopo was a prolific and accomplished Samoan musician and songwriter of the modern era. Some of her compositions included, "Farewell Samoa " (immortalized by the Legend, Mavis Rivers), "It's Only a Memory", "My South Sea Island Dream, "Tautalatala Means Too Much Talk", and “Im looking for a little man called Love" just to name a few.
This rendition by Tafaoata (Dawn Maumasi) recorded at Taupou Recording Studio (Hawaii) about 16 years ago. Dawn Maumasi is a vocalist from the village of Mulifanua, Upolu and is a current member of the revered and world renown Mormon Tabernacle Choir (Salt Lake City, Utah).
