Celebrating the Life of Alice Bartholomew

Alice Elsie Faulkner Bartholomew, age 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep, early Monday morning on September 05, 2022, following a stroke on Thursday evening, leaving her completely disabled. She hung on until she had seen each of her 3 living children and grandchildren, so they could hug her and say good-bye.
Alice was born May 12, 1934 in Hollywood, Florida to Lester W. and Gudrun Boye Faulkner, earning the title of “Our Florida Girl” from Earl. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers (Lester Webb Faulkner Jr., Richard Boye Faulkner, Thomas Graham Faulkner), sisters (Sally Lou Cole, Eleanor Collin Wightman), and her daughter Sharon Kay Combes (Brent). She is survived by her husband, sweetheart, and love of her life Earl Raymond Bartholomew, daughter Colynne Call (Michael), son Grant Lester Bartholomew, daughter Alyson Bartholomew Baker, and son-in-law Brent Combes, as well as 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Alice moved from the sandy beaches of southern Florida with her parents and younger brother out to the beautiful mountains of Utah to be closer to her 2 older sisters who married Utah boys. In May of 1953, while staying with her sister Sally and Sally’s husband Wally in Provo, Utah, Alice was introduced to their home teacher Earl Bartholomew from Alexandria, Minnesota, who was attending BYU. Earl and Alice were married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 03, 1953.
Alice was a very ardent member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and shared her testimony frequently with her family and everyone she met. She joined the Tabernacle Choir in 1962 under conductor Richard P. Condie. She traveled all over the world, sang to kings and queens in numerous countries and at some United States presidential inaugurations, and delighted in recording many albums with the choir. Her time in the choir was demanding but so rewarding. She loved sitting in the presence of several prophets and general authorities during general conference time. Alice served in the choir for 23 years as well as many auxiliaries of the church. One of her favorite callings was as Relief Society President where she truly learned about selfless service.
Of all the hats that Alice wore, the most rewarding was that of mother and grandmother. Her children were her pride and joy and she relished the role of “Grandma”. She had a way of making each one of her children and grandchildren feel loved, cherished, and special.
In June of 2022, Alice moved with her husband Earl to Alta Ridge Memory Care. Both have been on Hospice care.
Alice’s family wishes to express appreciation to Misty Adinaro, Emily Lucero, and the staff at Alta Ridge Memory Care and Twin Oaks Assisted Living, as well as her hospice nurses, Lindsay Cox & Joan Simmons, who all served her with tenderness and loving care.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday September 10, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. with a viewing held prior at 11:00 a.m. at the Silvercrest Ward located at 9119 South 1300 East, Sandy, UT 84094. Burial at Elysian Gardens on Monday September 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.
