Tom, Justin and Elliott skipped out of the country one more time to visit Rome as ambassadors of angst in the service of Black Gold. I can't quite believe I heard Holiday in Cambodia by the Dead Kennedys on the radio, followed by the mighty Black Flag's Rise Above before the band appeared. Very unexpected, but lots of fun. Once I'd heard them, however, I did feel like this might be a slightly odd venue for Editors. Still, life is all about contrasts, and it worked out just fine. Plus, they might have reached someone on that far end of the rock spectrum that may not have heard them, which is great.
As well as talk and music, there's an unexpected wrestling match for your entertainment. The DJ asked the questions in Italian, and a translator fed them to the band in English. Weirdly, that relationship actually breaks down and the translator has her job done for her once the second question is asked. The third question sees her almost back in control again, but not quite. Then the band being playing and by this point she's clearly been given her coat, had a taxi booked and was probably on her way home. If I had to referee this contest, I'd say that it was a win for the host by submission. Odd, odd, odd.
If you're a hardcore fan then when it comes to the subjects that were covered, you've already heard them (apart from the one about what their best creation was, Elliott's is priceless). Enjoy the show ;)
