One of Iceland's most explosive volcanoes is now likely to erupt fairly soon, at least that is by 2026-2027. The reason for this was the recent occurrence of a small river drying up that originates from this stratovolcano. On its own, such a small change might sound insignificant, but at Hekla there is a history of this occurring within the days to years before an eruption occurs.
