"He also taught me that entertaining took more than skill. Jerry Lee doesn't walk on stage and politely thank an audience for being there. Nah. Yeah, Jerry Lee doesn't ask for your attention, he demands it. He doesn't take a stage, he commands it. Sounds familiar. Jerry Lee doesn't play songs, he owns songs. He never plays the same way twice. He's gonna play it the way he feels it. Boy, this is really familiar. At that very moment, Jerry Lee also taught me not to bow down to anyone. He knew he was the best, the very best. He was the best in 1956 when he entered Sun Studios with Sam Phillips and Cowboy Jack in Memphis. And he's been the best every day since."

"I love Keith Whitley, love his music. I love Miss Lorrie. And so I guess that's why tonight's just perfect for me. The song, the singer, the guy's going into the Hall of Fame. Whose taking the plaque for him and acceptance speech. We became road friends when we were on tour together. And it doesn't take you long in this business, if you watch it at all, to realize that a woman has to do a thousand times more than a man to get a tenth as much. I watch this woman work hard every day. And I can tell you this, we will be celebrating the day that you come in here as well, but for now, if you wouldn't mind, would you come welcome the newest member to the Country Music Hall of Fame, Keith Whitley."

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Lorrie Morgan, recording artist - on Keith Whitley:
"Keith was three weeks away from being a member of the Grand Ole Opry when he passed away. He didn't know it. And he would have never suspected this in his life. This is the greatest honor for me to accept this, along with my children, Jesse Keith Whitley, Morgan Whitley. We have been through a lot together. And remembering Keith and loving Keith and missing Keith. And my whole family. We've all missed him together."

STORYLINE:
JERRY LEE LEWIS, KEITH WHITLEY INDUCTED INTO COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME
Two artists who started their careers outside of country music were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame Sunday (16 OCTOBER 2022), as early rock pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis and bluegrass performer-turned-country star Keith Whitley joined the ranks.
Lewis, the 87-year-old artist nicknamed "The Killer," was unable to attend the induction ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee, due to guidance from his doctor. But his fellow country stars Hank Williams Jr. and Kris Kristofferson showed up in his stead to accept and honor the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.
Also inducted this year was music executive Joe Galante, who had a key role in marketing country music to wider pop and rock audiences starting in the 1980s.
