Major Dundee, called The Major Dundee Band until 1994, has been a Dutch country rock band since 1979. The band was founded in Oosterhout in the Gelderse Overbetuwe and collaborated with artists such as the Tex-Mex accordionist Flaco Jiménez and with Toni Willé who previously sang for Pussycat.
The Major Dundee Band was founded in 1977 in Oosterhout near Nijmegen. The band is led by Dick van Altena and performed for the first time on December 17 of that year. The occupation at the time was as follows:

Ton Verkooyen, vocals, guitar and drums
Ferry Tang, vocals and bass guitar
Karel Mombarg, vocals, guitar and drums
Jan Gerrits, vocals, guitar, harmonica and footboard.
In 1978 the first single, "The longer the distance" was released, with a place at number 29 of the National Hitparade and number 35 of the Dutch Top 40. The song was written by Fred Limpens and was released on Johnny's Killroy label. Hoes. The same year the album I bought me a fiddle today was released.
