Major Dundee, called The Major Dundee Band until 1994, has been a Dutch country rock band since 1979. The band was founded in Oosterhout in the Gelderse Overbetuwe and collaborated with artists such as the Tex-Mex accordionist Flaco Jiménez and with Toni Willé who previously sang for Pussycat.
In 1978 the first single, "The longer the distance", was released with a place at number 29 of the National Hit Parade and number 35 of the Dutch Top 40. The song was written by Fred Limpens and was released on Johnny Hoes's Killroy label. The same year the album I bought me a fiddle today was released.
