Manor Farm/Dean & Chapter Quarries Leyland Trading Estate Island Explore

Take a journey with us as we explore an area of land behind Wellingborough's Leyland Trading estate. Previous to 1854 the land that was leased by Dean & Chapter of Peterborough Cathedral for quarrying to Messrs Blackwell and Smith . It also had a tramway connection to the Blisworth to Peterborough Railway (L&NWR) and a tunnel for one of the earliest recoded tramway in the midlands and can still be seen today. There is another suspected railway as explained in the Book by Eric Tonks so we go and explore the island at the back of the estate to see if any signs of the suspected railway remains.
