MERLE HAGGARD'S "I THINK I'LL JUST STAY HERE AND DRINK : GUITAR SOLOS # 2 & 3

Continuing from the last video, I now play solos 2 and 3 of Merle Haggard's classic song "I THINK I'LL JUST STAY HERE AND DRINK"

Studio guitarist Reggie Young played both these solos with distortion added to the guitar so I'm trying to replicate the tone for this illustration.

To present these solos I'm actually learning them to the best of my ability the evening before posting them. I've always just improvised the solos in a band setting and not really sat down and tried to learn them note for note. Here I'm trying to play them in the style that guitarist Reggie Young played them. It's not easy to try and replicate the phrasing and feel of Reggie's actual solos but I do my best here for illustration purposes so I'm not claiming to play them 100% accurate. I also play it slower after the original take. When playing it slower it can also be difficult to play it accurately so my apologies if a note or slight phrasing is played a little differently. However my purpose here is to try and capture the feel and play it as accurately as I can. I played this to a backing track that I purchased and removed the guitar solos in order to play them here.

Reggie Young's guitar playing has been a true inspiration. The ability he had to play that solo or phrase that fit so well in a song was nothing short of perfection. With these solo illustrations I'm merely trying to copy Reggie's solos which only Reggie could play. But Reggie was the inventor of these classic solos!
