Music for a Sunday Night in Salamanca / Paul Winter Consort / Spanish Angel / Track 9

At some point in almost all of the Consort’s concerts, they ask for the hall to be totally darkened, and they play whatever comes to their collective imagination. It is always a risk, but when it works, it is uniquely satisfying, and this free polyphony is the Consort’s own sort of Dixieland.

Written by Rhonda Larson, Eugene Friesen, Paul Halley, Glen Velez, Eliot Wadopian, Paul Winter (Living Earth Music, BMI)

Paul Winter | soprano sax
Paul Halley | keyboards
Rhonda Larson | flute
Eugene Friesen | cello

SPANISH ANGEL captures the Paul Winter Consort’s third tour of Spain, in 1992. Roused by fervent audiences, stimulated by the vibrant acoustics of classic old opera houses and concert halls, the Consort gave dynamic performances which, captured on state-of-the-art recording equipment, have resulted in a favorite and Grammy-winning album.
