Why this song?
I really like the simplicity of it's 3/4 swing, and I've always admired the way PJ Harvey sits somewhere between scary and sweet. Plus I enjoy singing songs by female vocalists, but I often have to do it an octave lower.
Why this style?
It's close to the original. But, I wanted to get some of that dirty, slightly beat-up feel, like an old unused piano so, for the first time ever, I introduce to you my very first guitar, Stella. She was a cheap guitar my parents bought me when I was aged 12-13. Stella has been my go to for many years, taught me much, and been the vital tool for most of my songwriting. She's been busking, plus played many backyard and campfire parties. About time Stella got recognition she deserves. Thank you Stella
Extra note ...
... watch my strumming hand, my self-taught unique style is very evident as I move between strumming techniques. Holding the pick inside my hand I strum with my fingers for a more muted feel, but it actually looks like I'm using a pick the standard way. Then, using the pick my hand becomes the ROCK / METAL horns. Like the original left-handed players who just flipped the guitar over, my technique is a small thing I'm proud of that displays a self-taught determination.
