In a rather amusing manner, a recent statement released by federal police agencies and apparently directed to members of parliament has explained that policing services throughout Canada would suffer if officers were sent to collect weapons as part of the gun grab plan proposed by the Trudeau Liberal government.

You would recall that Justin Trudeau had made the announcement that he was going to prohibit more than one thousand five hundred kinds of weapons in May of 20 20. This included rifles that are specifically used for hunting and recreational shooting. According to the Parliamentary Budget Officer, the estimated cost of the scheme is seven hundred and fifty million dollars. And when administrative expenses are included, it's possible that those charges will reach a total of one billion dollars.

After that, the Minister of Public Safety, Marco Mendicino, had issued letters to the provinces asking for assistance from their respective police forces.

On Thursday, witnesses from the Canadian police force appeared before the House of Commons Public Safety Committee, which is examining Bill C 21, the proposed law that would further limit access to handguns in the country of Canada.

The President of the National Police Federation, Brian Sauvé, said that police agencies in Canada, including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, are already functioning at minimum levels.

“We’re having challenges recruiting; we’re having challenges with retaining; we’re having challenges attracting to the law enforcement profession. So every time that we increase the mandate of police officers on the street, there has to be something that gives. And is that going to mean that we don’t respond to that mental health call (or) the person in crisis in the middle of the street because police officers are now tied up going to pick up guns that are no longer legal to possess?” Sauvé said.

Meanwhile, late in September, Tyler Shandro, the Minister of Justice for Alberta, had made the announcement that he would oppose the gun grab in any way possible. In addition to this, he said that he had written to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Department to notify them that the confiscation plan was not a priority for the province and that, as a result, it was considered improper use of the R C M P's resources.
