Track 9 from their second album “Bustin’ Out” released in 1972 copyright RCA Records. It was recorded at RCA Studios in Toronto. The band from Waverly, Ohio helped develop country rock but flew under the radar back in the day, at least for me. They were excellent musicians with great harmonies and this album was their most successful. It was very well-produced and rock legend Mick Ronson provided the string arrangements. It didn’t garner much interest when first released and the single “Amie” failed to chart. After interest in the song gradually increased through airplay on college radio stations, it reached No. 27 three years later with the album reaching No. 34 on Billboard and No. 24 in Canada. It was certified Gold in 1976 and “Amie” is now considered a country rock classic. Singer and guitarist Craig Fuller failed to comply with the Vietnam draft and was imprisoned after this album’s release, ending his time in the band he had formed. In 1987, he became the lead singer for Little Feat, one of the greatest American bands, eight years after Lowell George’s untimely death. Written by Craig Fuller and produced by Robert Alan Ringe. RIP Mick Ronson & Dianne Brooks. Featuring:
Craig Fuller – Lead vocals, lead, rhythm & acoustic guitars, bass & background vocals
George Ed Powell – Lead, rhythm & acoustic guitars & background vocals, lead vocal on “Leave My Heart Alone”
William Frank Hinds – Drums
Special Guests:
Michael Connor – Piano & organ
James Rolleston – Bass
Al Brisco – Pedal steel guitar
Mick Ronson – Rhythm guitar, background vocals & string arrangements
Little Bobby Ringe – Marimba & shaker
Dianne Brooks – Background vocals on “Leave My Heart Alone”
Call me, tell me we should meet tomorrow
I can't see things quite your way
But I think that I could show you
Things that lie below your thoughts and words
And your gardens and your stained glass day
Times you've come to me and said you don't know how
I think that there might be somethin' wrong
You could change your thoughts before I go but then you'd know that
You were right where I wanted you and you didn't know
You were meant to worship and accuse
Anything you want but now it looks like you will lose
All the things you needed when you were the one
Can't be found, you know they've just begun
To crumble all around you and you see them tumble down
Without a thought or a care for you, oh, what you do, hoo
