Daddy cast the cabin stairs
back In year sixty nine ( it was 72, but couldn't come up with rhyme...)
We pressed our handprints to it
To leave an everlasting sign

From the top of the stairs
started a trail to a local town
To my friends place
Or collecting swamps from around

From the trail i saw
The first view of the lake’s state
Is the ice away now
Can I use a sailboat with my mate

The trail is gone now
only the weed grows
Nature took it back
The trail was forgotten long ago

The mossy stairs
they still remained
The concrete is strong
It doesn’t ask why its made

Like those old stairs
Needed no more
I’m slightly worn
But the same man as before

There’s no more cottage summers
for my dad
He’s still strong enough
But his sight is just too bad

In this place i see
What a pair of hands can do
From my own part
I’ve built a thing or two

This cottage land
is the only thing remaining
When generations change
And our trails are fading

Everything that gets broken
Is built again one day
The trails keep on moving
But the roots are here to stay

The mossy stairs
Will also break one day
Still the concrete lasts, it
Doesn’t ask why it was made

Like those old stairs
Needed no more
I’m slightly worn
But the same man as before
