Today, we recognize our Service men and women in The U.S. Army Special Forces!

On April 9, 1987, the Special Forces was established as a basic branch of The U.S. Army. You might know them as the Green Berets--a nickname inspired by their distinctive beret authorized by President John F. Kennedy in 1961.

The Army Band's bluegrass ensemble, Country Roads, featuring Master Sgt. Tracy Labrecque of The U.S. Army Voices, salutes The U.S. Army Special Forces with a performance of "The Ballad of the Green Berets."

#DYK this song was written by U.S. Army Special Forces Soldier Staff Sgt. Barry Sadler and author Robin Moore. This performance is based on the popular Dolly Parton rendition.
