Thompson Twins - Come Inside [Rock A Dub]
(Disc One, Side 2, Track 2 - Vinyl Only/Promo Only Mix)
Additional Production and Remix – George Morel, Ricky Crespo for Cole/Clivilles Music Enterprises
Label: Warner Bros. Records – PRO-A-4941
Country: US / Released: 1991
Prior to the release of 1991's Queer, Thompson Twins' eighth and final album, three singles were released under the disguise of Feedback Max (Tom Bailey and Keith Fernley). Tom has said that he didn't want this (at the time) new music to be immediately associated with the Thompson Twins name, as he wanted it to be listened to/heard without prejudice. These singles were testing new styles: House, Hardcore and even Techno.
The first single released was credited to Feedback Max feat. T.T., and was titled "Float Up High" (FEED 1). A Siren-House styled song, where the only vocals used were Alannah Currie's. We would later find out that this song came from "Flower Girl", a song that would later be featured on the album.
The more Hardcore B-Side, "Cheeni Ek Chammach", does feature Tom on vocals. However, his vocals are in chant-style, cleverly hiding the fact that 'T.T.' was Thompson Twins.
The second single released, "Come Inside" (FEED 2), was also credited to the Feedback Max feat. T.T. name. This time, Tom's vocals were being used, sparingly sampling only the two words..."Come Inside." The single was very successful in the clubs. The 2-track single featured the mixes later identified as the Feedback Max House Mix on Side 1, and the Feedback Max Dub on Side 2 (as Bonus Beats).
The third single released, "Intense 6/Low" (FEED 3), was only credited to Feedback Max. The vocals sampled on "Intense 6" are not of either Tom or Alannah, and "Low" is strictly instrumental.
When "Come Inside" was officially released as the first single from Queer, and credited to the Thompson Twins name, it under-performed in the UK, reaching only #56 on the UK Singles Chart. In the US, the single fared better, reaching #7 on the U.S. Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs Chart, and #13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales Chart.
The tracks and mixes on both the FEED 1 and FEED 3 singles, and four mixes from the "Come Inside" Promo 2x12" Single have never been officially released on CD or in digital format. I'll be uploading my own rips of these vinyl-only singles/mixes, less the Feedback Max House Mix of "Come Inside", as that is available to stream at the official Thompson Twins - Topic here on YouTube.
