Tim Burton's PLANET OF THE APES (2001) starring Mark Wahlberg - Full Movie Commentary!

I've been wanting to do a commentary with my good buddy and film critic Zaki Hasan for some time and, given that he's the biggest Planet of the Apes fan I know, it seemed fitting to team up for the oft-loathed reboot of the series from director Tim Burton.

Released in 2001 after a hellishly-rushed shoot and starring Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth, Michael Clarke Duncan, Helena Bonham Carter, Paul Giamatti, Kris Kristofferson, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Estella Warren, this particular version sadly set the series back rather than give it new life.

Still, the film does have its fans and with the help of a POTA expert, we attempt to dissect, discuss and, of course, make a lot of jokes about this rushed attempt at re-capturing ape magic. From the Danny Elfman score to the Rick Baker make-up to that weird cliffhanger ending, we look at all aspects of the film, including trivia and the lasting impact it's had on the franchise.
