The capital markets have generally believed that SOE developers are likely to survive the real estate bubble. After a string of private developers, such as Sunac and Evergrande defaulted on their international bonds, Greenland Holdings may become the first state-backed developer that follows suit. Investors worry that Greenland may not have enough government support to survive the debt crisis and its high-profile projects in Los Angles, New York and London may contribute to the housing bubble.
