What's up fellow Wanderers and welcome back to the channel! In today’s Short, we are looking at an old trestle bridge that spans the North Saskatchewan River in beautiful Rocky Mountain House!
This trestle bridge was built in 1914 as part of the Alberta Central Railway which by that point due to rising costs of wanting to develop a high-quality rail line had become a wholly owned subsidiary of the Canadian Pacific in 1912 which led to the network being extended to Sylvan Lake and Benalto that same year. The competing Canadian Northern Western Railway also built a line at the same time west from near Stettler, north of Red Deer west to Rocky Mountain House, much of the line parallel with the ACR but at a lower standard of construction. There were many stories of fights and acts of sabotage that broke out between the two construction crews in their quest to get to the Brazeau coal fields first.
I think using this song by the great Johnny Cash in the background really makes one think about what this old trestle has experienced in its lifetime and wonder if it has ever experienced a train wreck...
I am looking to get two 2️⃣ “On The Trail” videos put out on the channel relatively soon ???? as I have Johnson Lake and Big Knife prepared but I just need to do the voiceovers for the videos.
See you in the next video and if you’re new please subscribe to the channel!
