Ciao Beatiful people!
My brother and I went backpacking in Indochina. Y'all curious how we did it for the first time? ;)
It ain't easy planning our trip as we got zero clue about their land transport system and language... they dont even speak english. But with a very keen research, it's all possible!
Here are some tips before you go Backpacking Indochina/Hanoi:
- Book your bus through Baolau or Bookmebus (they're the best choice out there). Remember to book at least 1 week ahead.
- Book your activities and tours through Klook. reliable, affordable, and better services.
- Book your other activities and tours through airbnb too.
- Book your accommodation through Booking.com, the hotels/motels are so cheap but the quality is good! No need for homestays or airbnb if u aint needing kitchen etc.
- Bring US dollars. Easier to exchange. Most shops especially in Cambodia accepts USD as payment.
- Download offline maps of each country/city in google. Trust me, it's a life saver.
- You can wear tank tops, shirts, shorts in each country. But if you're going to sacred places like temples, you've got to wear shirts and pants.
- Use Taxi/Grab in Vietnam / Laos / Cambodia, it's fairly cheaper than Philippines. Thailand has the same rate. If you dont wanna haggle the rate of the taxi, better book through Grab. Safer and reliable. Try tuktuk, these are like pedicabs / tricycles, cheaper but it'll take longer.
- Bring Off Lotion (Insect repellant), small towel, toiletries, tissues, emergency meds/pills when Backpacking. Anything that you could think off but mind the weight especially when you're going home through plane.
- Eat as much street food and drinks as you can, it's cheap and a once-in-a-lifetime moment... yah including the exotic ones. ;)
- If you're part of ASEAN, you don't need visa. However, if you're from other non participating countries, you can apply beforehand or have visa on arrival. Check your passports entry power. It's fairly easy to go to each countries immigration, it's different from the ones on the airport but pretty much the same process.
- Take lots of videos not only pictures! The views are really magnificent.
