Taliban fighters opened fire on a crowd of protesters in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, after taking control of the province following the withdrawal of U.S. troops. Dozens of people had gathered to raise the national flag a day before Afghanistan’s Independence Day, which commemorates the end of British rule in 1919.
